Like a smoker who continues to puff despite knowing the dangers, a narcissist might lie out of habit, even when the truth would serve them better. It’s a desperate attempt to maintain control of the narrative, even if it means creating a tangled web of deceit.

Blurring the Lines Between Truth and Fiction: Narcissists often have a grandiose sense of self, a belief that they are superior and entitled. This grandiosity can blur the lines between truth and fiction in their own minds. They might start to believe their own lies, or get caught up in elaborate fantasies they present as reality. Imagine a child playing make-believe; a narcissist might get lost in their self-created world, where their lies become their perceived truth. This can make it incredibly difficult to have a genuine connection with them, as you’re never quite sure what’s real and what’s fabricated.
