Empaths often feel the need to defend themselves when faced with criticism. However, engaging with a narcissist only provides them with more supply. If they mischaracterize you, remember that this is simply a projection. It is not your responsibility to ensure they understand anything about you.
Here’s my best advice: don’t take the bait. Avoid indulging in their manipulative behavior, and don’t feel compelled to defend yourself. The old saying goes, “If you wrestle with a pig, you’ll get dirty, and the pig likes it.” State your case once and walk away. Don’t waste your time and energy on their manipulations.
By doing this, you will gradually deprive the narcissist of the supply they seek, which should always be your goal. You want to stop being viewed as a valuable source of supply, ultimately leading them to leave you alone.
By understanding word salad and the tactics of narcissists, you can better protect yourself from their manipulative behavior. Remember, your peace of mind is more important than engaging in their games.
