If you want to know who a narcissist is beneath all the facade and masks they wear, observe their facial expressions. Through these micro-expressions, they reveal a lot of grandiosity, entitlement, egocentrism, sadism, and a true lack of empathy. Narcissists often make very strange facial expressions, and when you observe these in combination with their actions, you’ll begin to understand what you’re dealing with.
Facial Expression #1: An eye roll followed by a deep sigh.
Whenever you say something important, a narcissist might roll their eyes and follow it with a deep sigh, which essentially communicates, “I’m done with you. Just shut up already.” To them, your words are nonsense, and they mock you with this facial expression, belittling your feelings and making you feel insignificant. However, keep in mind that a victim can also roll their eyes out of frustration during endless, nonsensical conversations with a narcissist. That’s why context and intent matter.
Facial Expression #2: The dead stare.
When you express your emotions, a narcissist may give you a cold, unblinking stare, as if they are calculating how to use your vulnerability against you. This stare reveals a lack of empathy and their intent to manipulate you. Some describe their eyes as widening, with pupils dilating slightly, though this can vary. It’s a predatory look, not the gaze of someone listening with care.
