Narcissists often go silent when they feel uncomfortable in a situation or with a person who threatens their sense of control.
Narcissists thrive on being the center of attention. They feel most secure when they know how events will unfold because it allows them to prepare the “perfect” mask to gain maximum admiration. However, when things don’t go as planned—like meeting someone more attractive or charismatic—they may feel threatened and choose to withdraw.
If someone else becomes the center of attention, the narcissist becomes angry or uncomfortable. They might close themselves off and remain quiet. If you ask why they’re so silent, they might claim they’re tired or feeling unwell.
This behavior stems from their frustration at being sidelined. They may even target the person who “stole” the attention, blaming them for making them feel insecure or angry.
